Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get the job???
We understand that military veterans face a unique set of challenges when they transition to the private sector. Our Founder and CEO Gene Bransfield recently presented on this very topic, answered frequently asked questions, and gave some tips for joining the WarCollar Family.
How do I describe duties in a civilian resume?
Get on Google with your keywords and look for job openings. Look on LinkedIn for people who have your job. Check with ChatGPT. Use those job descriptions to help you write your resume. You can list your role/responsibilities and technical experience without divulging specific details to a mission or operation. For example: Conduct targeting, research, analysis, and reporting of all-source intelligence utilizing numerous databases and technical analysis tools to support ongoing investigations.
Can I mention I have a security clearance on my resume?
I would not post it to job boards – but if you are sending your resume to a particular company then definitely include it. Some government positions and/or companies may have positions that require a security clearance. Having this information in your resume, even if your clearance is expired, may still attract employers seeking a candidate who is cleared or was able to obtain a clearance before.
6 Tips for Applying to WarCollar
Tip 1: Include relevant contact information!!!
Most of us have two or more email addresses. If you are not including your primary email address with your application, be sure to check that secondary (tertiary, etc) email address to see communications from a WarCollar recruiter or employee.
Tip 2: Do your research
Always research information on the employer and read the job description carefully to see if you qualify.
Tip 3: Customize
Tailor your resume and cover letter to the job you're applying for. In your resume, highlight relevant skills and accomplishments, and prioritize qualifications mentioned in the job description.
Tip 4: Your email makes a first impression
Always use a professional email address that includes your actual name, and not a joke email address like “PhilliesPhan.”
Tip 5: Follow up and don’t ghost!
After an interview or meeting, follow up with the person who interviewed, preferably via email. Do not ghost the recruiter. You could be missing out on future opportunities.
Tip 6: Never take a “no thanks,” personally
You might not be the right fit for an open position now, but down the line a company might have the perfect job opening.
